Former Shaman and music producer Hugo Mariutti released his new solo single “Too Late” this Thursday, the 13th, via ForMusic Records. The song is expected to be part of his next album, which follows A Blank Sheet of Paper (2014) and For a Simple Rainy Day (2017).
Characterized by calm guitar riffs and steady drumming, “Too Late” reflects on a relationship that failed to appreciate in time, acknowledging how real everything experienced was. “In this work I wrote very personal lyrics, some even with double meanings, where the listener may have a different interpretation,” revealed Hugo. The music video, directed by Caike Scheffer, explores this introspection and loneliness through black and white images showing the guitarist walking at night on a deserted street.
The instruments on the newly released track were almost entirely produced by Mariutti, who also mixed the music. Only the drums and the more elaborate piano parts were recorded by Edu Cominato and Flavio Marchesin , and Pedro Turcão was responsible for the mastering.
Hugo's third album, scheduled for release in early June, should also include the single "Blur," released in February. "I try to evolve with each project," said the guitarist. "The compositions for this work were outside my comfort zone for singing. Instead of adapting them, I kept the original keys to convey greater emotion. So I needed to practice a lot."
The musician's sound is heavily influenced by British music: from ballads of the 1950s and 1960s to post-punk and Britpop, drawing inspiration from artists ranging from Gerry & The Pacemakers to Slowthai.
