Robert Trujillo , bassist for Metallica , recounts how he met Ozzy Osbourne in a conversation with the Toby Morse podcast One Life One Chance .

According to Trujillo, they met in 1991 while recording the album The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move… with his band Infectious Groove .

Ozzy was in the same studio, Devonshire Sound Studios, in North Hollywood, USA, recording the album No More Tears (1991). As the bassist describes in the podcast, the Prince of Darkness had a habit of getting away to hang out with other artists.

Trujillo says that Ozzy “was crazy at the time,” via Ultimate Guitar . The bassist adds that the vocalist had a habit of constantly having his assistants looking for him in the studio: “Suddenly, Ozzy walks in, ‘Don’t tell him I’m here!’”

Robert mentions that thanks to this encounter he was able to play with Ozzy, having been called to participate in the auditions while they were looking for a bassist. Trujillo continued playing with the vocalist until 2003, when he joined Metallica.

The bassist was part of a tribute to Ozzy at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on October 19th. He performed alongside Billy Idol , Zakk Wylde , and other artists.
