Danica Roem was cited by Hillary Clinton as an inspiration
Danica Roem, vocalist for the thrash metal band Cab Ride Home, was praised by Hillary Clinton on International Women's Day.
Roem became the first openly transgender person to be elected to a constituent office in United States history. The thrash metal vocalist won the seat in the Virginia House of Representatives by a wide margin over Republican candidate Robert Marshall, who was seeking re-election after 13 terms.
On March 8th, Hillary Clinton sent a series of messages praising several women who inspire her, including Danica Roem:
“In honor of #InternationalWomensDay, I want to celebrate some of the women and girls who inspire me every day,” Clinton wrote. “These women resist inequality, insist on a better world, persevere against all odds, and recruit others to our common battles.”
Regarding Danica Roem, Hillary said: "Upon being elected in November, Danica created a huge crack in the glass ceiling that existed and immediately began working to serve her constituents."
Hillary cited other women including Tarana Burke, founder of the #MeToo , Rachael Denhollander, and other members of the artistic gymnastics team who denounced the sexual assaults they suffered, as well as many other women.
