Nancy Wilson, guitarist and co-founder of Heart , harshly criticized the Donald Trump for using the band's classic song, "Barracuda," in the military parade last Saturday, June 14th, in Washington, D.C.
The event celebrated the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and coincided with the 79th birthday of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Nancy used her social media accounts last Monday, the 16th, to react to the use of the song:
"Earlier today, during a parade held in support of our nation's armed forces and hosted by President Donald Trump, the song ' Barracuda ' by HEART was played without our permission or authorization."
The guitarist continued:
“‘Barracuda,’ written and performed by Ann [ Wilson ] and me, is a powerful piece of music that was never intended to be used for political purposes. As daughters of a U.S. Navy major, we have a deep respect for the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces. On a day dedicated to honoring that service, it’s important that the music used at these events reflects not only the tone of the event but also the wishes of the artists who created it.”
In the post, Nancy appeared wearing a hat that read “No Kings But Us.” This is a reference No Kings protests that took place across the country last Saturday, the 14th. The protest denounces what organizers described as Trump's authoritarian policies.
Not only was the instrumental version of "Barracuda" played, but also Journey was among the songs performed during the festivities.
