Headspawn released the music video for the track “You Are” on the 27th, a song featured on their debut album Parasites ( 2023). The track highlights not only the individual potential of the musicians on their instruments, but also their commercial potential, featuring a catchy chorus and a strong message.

According to drummer Marconi Jr. , the band already knew the song's potential: "It was the most commercial song on the album, and we needed a song like that. The chorus is the album's high point for me," he says.

Bassist JP Cordeiro added that the song will open many doors for the band: “We knew we needed a song that was easy to play on the radio or in the media, and it’s perfect for that. Extremely fun to play, it caught attention from the first time it was performed.”

According to guitarist and vocalist Alf Cantalice , the song maintains its groove throughout and "has a striking message of self-acceptance, in contrast to the denser tone of the others."

Cantalice also commented on Headspawn's participation in Sepultura in João Pessoa, the trio's hometown, where they served as the opening act, also on July 27th, and how happy they were to hear about the fans' requests for them to play at the event.

“We were extremely flattered to learn that the Paraíba audience practically demanded that the production team put Headspawn on stage so we could play with Sepultura. It was very gratifying to know that, after all that appeal, they liked our sound and put us there! We raised the bar a lot with that and we are only grateful for this opportunity,” he concludes.

'Parasites' and the public's reception

Since its launch on November 17th, Parasites has garnered increasingly impressive numbers of listens and views on digital platforms, receiving high praise in prestigious media outlets – both in Brazil and abroad.

With an aggressive and technical groove metal sound, influenced by bands like Soulfly , Slipknot , Machine Head , Korn , Alice In Chains and, of course, Sepultura itself, the band masterfully incorporates its Northeastern roots and dense melodies, infusing a melancholic tenacity into its intelligent lyrics and catchy choruses.

“This album is a substantial mosaic of sounds, influences, engaging themes, and Northeastern roots that intertwine in a very original and cohesive way. The band's identity is never relegated to the background, standing out in each track, while new elements take center stage,” comments Alf Cantalice.

Like their previous EPs, Pretty Ugly People (2021) and Pretty Ugly People Live (2022), which were widely praised by the press and established musicians, Parasites not only represents a milestone for the power trio, but also celebrates the influence and vitality of Northeastern Brazilian metal, which resonates in every corner of Brazil, and very soon, in the world.
