Headbangers of Brazil: who are they, what do they listen to, and where do they live? A groundbreaking study aims to profile the Brazilian metal audience. Developed by a group affiliated with UFSJ in Minas Gerais, the project is in its final data collection phase among fans of heavy metal music.

Called the "Headbanger Census," the initiative aims to create a "demographic and sociocultural survey focused on the heavy metal lover community," based on detailed data about the preferences and interests of those in the Brazilian metal scene, ranging from information such as age, gender, and geographic location, to musical influences, participation in metal-related events, subgenre preferences, cultural experiences, and more.

According to those responsible for the initiative, the Headbanger Census aims to go beyond simply generating numbers, being described as an opportunity to "clarify myths and prejudices associated with the scene. It's an opportunity to show who we really are and confront stereotypes head-on."

Linked to the Transdisciplinary Research and Extension Group on Heavy Metal Cultural Practices , the Headbanger Census research is a project by researchers Leonardo Nascimento, Cleber Araújo, Daniel França Alves, and Marcos Henrique Oliveira.
