Hayley Williams , lead singer of Paramore , expressed her disappointment after a Tennessee state representative rejected a resolution honoring Grammy winner Allison Russell

According to The Tennessean , Democratic Representative Justin Jones introduced two resolutions to honor Paramore and Russell following their respective wins at the 2024 Grammy Awards. However, Republican Speaker Jeremy Faison opposed Russell's resolution, keeping only the tribute to the band.

In a statement released by the same newspaper, Hayley said: “For those who don’t know, Allison Russell is an incredibly talented musician and songwriter. Her music spans genres with strong ties to the Folk/Americana scene. You may have seen her on the Grammy stage performing with the great Joni Mitchell. Oh, and she’s also Black. She’s a brilliant Black woman.”

She continued, saying that “the blatant racism of our state leadership is embarrassing and cruel. I, as well as Paramore, will continue to encourage young people to turn out to vote with equality in mind.”

Grammy wins

Paramore made history at the last Grammy Awards after becoming the first rock band with a female vocalist to win Best Rock Album with This Is Why . The band also received the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance for the song "This Is Why" from the same album.
