The band has already sold 58 million copies
Billboard announced this week that Metallica's latest album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, has surpassed the milestone of 1 million albums sold, with the equivalent of 1,004,000 units sold to date. Billboard considers, in addition to sales of physical and digital albums in their entirety, TEA (track equivalent albums) and SEA (streaming equivalent albums); 10 tracks sold or 1500 streams are equivalent to one album.
Sales of Hardwired… To Self-Destruct have been steadily increasing, largely due to promotions run by the band, where ticket buyers for various shows received a free album.
This album is Metallica's 12th to surpass 1 million sales since 1991. In total, Metallica has sold 58 million albums in the United States.
