Hammett: "We need to start the new album"

Guitarist says band no longer has reason to procrastinate

Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett revealed that, despite several announcements that they would begin composing a new album, the band has not yet started work. "We have no more reason to procrastinate or postpone the songwriting. We're out of options, we have to start."

Vote in the poll: What is the best Metallica riff?

Hammett said the band doesn't have any songs written yet, but that ideas are plentiful: “James has 800 ideas, I have 400, so we won't lack material. It will be interesting to see how everything fits together .” Regarding a deadline for the album, the guitarist also commented that he is willing to try to release it at the beginning of next year: “It would be a challenge for us to release an album in 12 months. We did it with Lou Reed, but I don't think that counts, right?”

Drummer Lars Ulrich has commented in several interviews that there will be no new Metallica album before 2015, saying that the band will not work on it simply because of fan pressure.
