Mustaine responds on Twitter.
During an interview on the Word Of Wheeler podcast, Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett spoke about Dave Mustaine's dismissal in Metallica's early years, and commented on the feelings of resentment that remained with the Megadeth frontman. Check out his comment.
“You know, the thing with Dave is that we never, ever had a problem with him. We always saw Dave as someone who was really, really sad, really angry, frustrated with the whole Metallica situation, and he never managed to let it go. And you know, I always showed a lot of empathy for that, I understand why he was so pissed off. It’s like when the woman of your life leaves you. Like, really. When your band fires you… I’ve never been fired from a band, but I can imagine it being a horrible experience, especially if it’s a band you’re really attached to. So I understand Dave’s situation all these years. But I also say that when we did the 30th anniversary shows at Fillmore and invited Dave to play the songs from “Kill 'Em All,” man, it was great to have him on stage. And it was perfectly okay for me, while Dave was doing his solos I would go over to James and play the rhythm. And you could see in Dave’s face and his attitude that it was all super cathartic for him. You could see that he was…” "Helping him. And it's interesting because since then, Dave's relationship with us is a little better now. I like to think that it healed some wounds that needed healing."
After Hammett's comment gained media attention, Dave Mustaine posted a response on Twitter: “I have tremendous respect for Kirk Hammett and appreciate his perspective on things. He's almost 100% correct. Almost. I wish him all the best .
