Hamen blends science fiction and metal on debut album; listen

Hamen's music was inspired by the literature of Arthur C. Clarke

Each song, a story and a character. Each song, a small world to be discovered. It is from this idea that Unreflected Mirror , the debut album by Hamen . The band consists of Monica Possel (vocals), Cadu Puccini (guitar), Matheus Maia (bass) and Gabriel Pedroso (drums).

In their new work produced by Matheus Maia, the band combines science fiction and orchestrated melodies across 12 tracks. Considered one of the greatest Brazilian guitarists, Marcelo Barbosa ( Almah, Angra ) participated in the album on the track “The Life Has Passed”. The album is available on major streaming platforms and in physical format.

“The idea has always been to allow the listener to immerse themselves in a story. Or even imagine the story of a book or a film. It's like a 12-episode series, and in each one, the characters are introduced. Their evolution is told through the lyrics, and the emotions are heightened by the soundtrack,” explains Monica Possel.

It is also inspired by the concept of the postmodern world. The songs speak of people who live behind the machine, in a fast-paced and purposeless life. Focused on selfish feelings of growth and the pursuit of power, life loses meaning, leading to self-destruction.

Monica, the main lyricist for Hamen, talks about the inspiration for the songs. “I was very inspired by the science fiction work of Arthur C. Clarke. All the songs have variations on these themes. Whether it's the search for the unattainable, for power, or for the unknown. Human beings always want to be ahead and, in this eternal pursuit, lose the chance to know themselves, to live more and better,” she analyzes.
