Throughout its nearly 40-year existence, Helloween has built a solid legacy with 16 studio albums in its discography. Known as the father of power metal, the group continues with full force, having survived lineup changes and infighting to unite past and present in its current formation.
After ranking the album covers of Iron Maiden and Metallica Wikimetal editorial and design team came together to analyze the artwork that has graced Helloween's albums from 1985 to the present day.
Once again, the editorial vote focused solely on the visual aspect of the albums. Curiously, some of the worst positions in the ranking went to releases that were commercial and critical failures, such as Chameleon (1993) and Pink Bubbles Go Ape , whose covers were condemned as terrible by 80% of the votes.
On the podium of the list, the trend repeated itself: in addition to the classics Keeper of the Seven Keys , released in 1987 and 1988, the self-titled Helloween achieved a prominent place and was unanimously chosen as the best album cover of the German band's entire career. The album was also voted the third best of 2021 so far by the Wikimetal .
This trend was also repeated in the rankings for Maiden and Metallica. Could questionable album covers be a harbinger of musical content and vice versa? The theory loses its meaning when the covers of hits from the Andi Deris , Master of the Rings (1994) and Better Than Raw (1998), were not as acclaimed as the musical content they present.
