After 30 years, Axl Rose is ending the tradition of throwing the microphone to the audience at the end of Guns N' Roses .
The gesture became a hallmark and an anticipated moment at the band's shows, but apparently it will not continue after the vocalist learned that a fan had allegedly been injured during a show in Adelaide, Australia.
According to a local news portal , the victim of the accident was Rebecca Howe . An image posted along with the article shows Rebecca's face badly bruised, which she claims was due to the impact with the object thrown by Axl Rose.
On his Twitter account, Axl lamented the incident and stated that he and his bandmates don't want anyone to get hurt or risk injury at a Guns N' Roses show. Following this, the vocalist announced his decision to end the decades-long practice.
“Having thrown the microphone at the end of our shows for over 30 years, we always felt that this was a familiar moment at the end of our performances; something that fans wanted and were aware of to have a chance to catch the microphone. Regardless, in view of public safety, we will avoid throwing the microphone or anything else to fans during our performances,” they wrote on December 2nd.
No updates on the matter have been made so far. Check out Axl Rose's full statement:
