Guitarist Alex Skolnick recalls his first rehearsal with Ozzy Osbourne

Check out the testimonial.

Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick recounted his brief stint with Ozzy Osbourne's band, recalling his first rehearsal with Ozzy. Check it out:

“When I played with Ozzy for the first time… Everyone had told me that Ozzy hates rehearsing: ‘Look, this is what’s going to happen; he’s going to come into the room and announce a song. It doesn’t matter what the song is, just know how to play it. It’ll be one of these,’ so they gave me a list. ‘Don’t tune your guitar, you don’t need to. If your amp is making noise, turn it off. He hates noise.’ So there’s a whole preparation process. Of course, when he came into the room he came in and announced a song. Apparently it was good because then I knew we were going to do this surprise show. But then came ‘we’re not going to do it anymore because he has a sore throat.’ And then it’s ‘No, now we’re going to do the show.’ And this show was announced and canceled so many times… And in the end it was approved.”.

I remember one time... He was using a teleprompter. And that's no secret anymore, right? And believe me, he's not the only musician who uses one. But they were doing teleprompter operator tests. And it was a nice girl's turn. She had never worked with him before. And at one point she made a mistake, and I knew she wasn't going to get the job. Because she had pressed the wrong button and the music disappeared. And he was watching. And then he looked back, and I swear, it was the most evil look I've ever seen in my life. It was like Satan. But at the end of the show, he gave me a hug and told me I was hired, and everyone congratulated me. I thought it was amazing.”.

Skolnick was eventually fired from the band by Sharon Osbourne, who decided to hire guitarist Joe Holmes: “Everything worked out for the best in the end, because working with Ozzy made me delve deeper into Jazz and my whole career would have been different if I had stayed with Ozzy. But I am very grateful for the experience.”
