Sepultura drummer Greyson Nekrutman recalled the moment he joined the band in 2024 , less than two weeks before the start of the Celebrating Life Through Death Tour . According to him, "there was no way to say no" to the invitation.
In an interview conducted during the Europe Drum Showin Germany, Nekrutman detailed his intense preparation routine and how he dealt with it, especially since the group was facing 's departure Eloy Casagrande to Slipknot.
“It’s interesting, because Suicidal Tendencies was my first time playing on big stages and at festivals, and it was great. But the real mental challenge was the transition. Andreas [Kisser, guitarist] called me personally and explained the situation, saying that there was no longer a drummer and that they needed one. The best way to describe it – I told this to my family – is that I knew I had to say 'yes,' but that I was also taking on a lot of responsibility. I simply had to do it. There was no way to say 'no.' The only thing trying to stop me was my own fear,” he reflected [transcription via Blabbermouth].
Greyson Nekrutman rehearsed for about 14 hours a day before the premiere
“Those days were crazy. I spent about 13 or 14 hours a day. And I'm not kidding, because I only had about 10 days at home before going to Brazil [for the first show]. I remember that, around the middle of that time, it was about two in the afternoon and I had already been playing since eight in the morning. I got so frustrated trying to learn the songs perfectly that I said to myself: 'I need to walk'. I left home and thought: 'I have to do this, but it will require a lot of strength from me',” he concluded.
