Greta Van Fleet released their second studio album in April 2021 , but they're back on the charts with "You're the One," a track from the band's debut album, thanks to a TikTok trend that plays on the facial expressions of lead singer Josh Kiska during a performance of the song.
The popular video app allows users to create "duets" with content from other accounts. After a fan club posted a clip of Greta Van Fleet's performance on Saturday Night Live in 2019, the video went viral with its dramatic imitations of the singer's stage mannerisms.
At least five thousand videos were published based on the original over the past month, with some people making fun of Josh and others defending the vocalist's artistic performance. The result was immediate on digital platforms: the track returned to Billboard , reaching second place and a new peak on the chart.
Between July 16 and 22, the band had 7.6 million plays on streaming platforms in the United States alone, equivalent to a 122% increase, according to Billboard . During the same period, they had 6,000 digital downloads, 461% more than the average, and 5,000 album sales, an increase of approximately 86%.
Analyzing only the track "You're the One," it garnered 923,000 plays, a 508% increase compared to the previous period. Currently, the song is in sixth place on the digital rock sales chart, even surpassing "I Wanna Be Your Slave," a hit by Maneskin .
