Last Friday, the 24th, Green Day performed at the London Stadium in England, and vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong took the opportunity to criticize the United States Supreme Court's decision to overturn the constitutional right to abortion , in effect in the country since 1973.

Before singing “American Idiot ,” his biggest hit song which criticizes American society, Billie Joe said into the microphone: “Fuck the United States. I’m renouncing my citizenship, I’m coming here. There’s too much stupidity in the world to go back to this miserable excuse for a country.”

The lead singer, who is American, received a standing ovation from the stadium audience and promised he wasn't kidding. "You'll be seeing a lot of me in the coming days," he assured them.

Last weekend, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld a Mississippi law banning all abortions after 15 weeks with very few exceptions – even in cases of rape and incest. The right, which was previously constitutional and in effect nationwide, now leaves the decision to each state to decide autonomously.

Billie Joe Armstrong and Green Day weren't the only ones to speak out against the decision. A number of pop music names like Olivia Rodrigo , Billie Eilish , and Phoebe Bridgers also protested during their shows at the Glastonbury Festival last weekend.
