Green Day was the big headliner on the Skyline Stage at The Town 2025 on Sunday night, the 7th. The acclaimed pop-punk band closed the 2025 edition of the festival with a hot performance, full of hits and hysterical fans.

Although Green Day isn't considered a punk icon – critics and fans of the original punk scene criticize this position – they are an important band for mainstream rock in the 90s, with the roots of punk running through their veins, and they proved it at the show. There's no denying that Green Day has one of the main characteristics of punk: political ideology. Vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong has always made his political stance clear by openly attacking the current president of the United States.

The band brings The Saviors Tour , where they've been playing the albums Dookie (1994) and American Idiot (2004) in their entirety, but for The Town, the setlist had a special touch due to the short show time. The band started strong with their most commercial hit, "American Idiot," changing the lyrics to criticize Donald Trump, and at the end, Billie Joe said, "Happy Independence Day, Brazil," followed by "Holiday," both from the album American Idiot (2004). Soon after, during the track "Know Your Enemy," Billie invited a fan onto the stage, as usual. A highlight was the track "Hitchin' a Ride," which began with the intro to "Iron Man" by Black Sabbath .

It had been a long time since we'd seen fans so happy and excited at a show as we were today. The energy was palpable from beginning to end, from the young to the older fans who had come to appreciate the band. There was no shortage of hits from the 90s, such as "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around" from the album Dookie (1994). And of course, the song sung like an anthem by the audience, "Wake Me Up When September Ends." At the end of the show, everyone was still ecstatic, but there was a final burst of emotion left for the last song: "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)."

Many may criticize Green Day for selling out, or for not being true punk rock, but one thing is certain: their ability to deliver an arena rock spectacle, an energetic show both from the band's performance and the audience's enthusiasm, who sang along to all the hits. With almost 40 years on the road, the band showed a youthful spirit, 90s-style performance, and Billie Joe's vocals, which remain impeccable live.

For those who want to enjoy another dose of Green Day, with their full setlist, the band will also be performing in Curitiba, at Arena da Baixada, on September 12th. Tickets are available via Livepass .
