Green Day has announced two new dates for their South American tour . The band will perform in Rio de Janeiro on September 9th at the Nilton Santos Stadium, and in Curitiba on September 12th at the Ligga Arena. Tickets are available on the Livepass website .
While we wait for the show, we at Wikimetal Bill Joe Armstrong 's humorous habit of interrupting the band's shows for unusual reasons. Most recently, a fan lost his chance with the band and was kicked off the stage by the vocalist while playing Oasis .
Here are 4 times the lead singer paused Green Day's performance for various reasons.
Water gun irritation
The most recent incident occurred at the Hurricane Festival in Germany on June 22nd. A fan was shooting a water pistol at the vocalist, who threatened to "beat him up" if the spectator didn't stop. The incident took place during the performance of "Jesus of Suburbia" and went viral on social media.
Outrage over show cut in half.
One of the most controversial interruptions occurred in 2012 at the iHeartRadio Music Festival , during the performance of "Basket Case." Armstrong stopped the song mid-show when the teleprompter showed that the band only had one minute left after the festival's decision to reduce Green Day's stage time. The vocalist smashed his guitar on the floor and stormed off the stage in anger: "They're only going to give me one fucking minute? I've been doing this since 1988. I'm not Justin Bieber!"
A quarrelsome and abusive fan in the audience.
In 1997, during a performance at the Fillmore, the artist stopped the show and jumped into the audience to fight with a fan who was allegedly harassing a woman. “Hey, why don’t you come here, you son of a bitch? You want to come up here and fight? I’ll fight you right now. Come on, get on stage,” Billie Joe said moments before jumping into the audience.
Chaos and confusion at Woodstock '94
During their performance of "Paper Lanterns" at Woodstock in 1994, the audience began throwing mud at the stage. Eventually losing control of the crowd, Billie Joe said, "Everyone says 'Shut the fuck up' and we stop playing." As the audience complied, the band said goodbye and left the stage.
