Green Day is about to treat its fans to a celebration of its iconic album American Idiot . The band announced on August 9th an expanded reissue of the album, which turns 20 in 2024, packed with unreleased material and several surprises.
A limited edition super deluxe box set, available in 8LP and 4CD formats, will be released on October 25th. Each package contains two Blu-ray discs plus a limited edition colored vinyl version of the original release.
In addition to the 15 original tracks, fans will be able to check out 15 unreleased demos, a live show recorded at Irving Plaza, New York in 2004, nine additional live recordings, including a cover of Queen ," and 14 bonus songs.
To celebrate the announcement, Green Day released three unreleased tracks on streaming platforms: the demo of "Holiday/Boulevard Of Broken Dreams," the B-side "Favorite Son," and a live version of "Minority."

Documented legacy and more surprises.
One of the highlights of the re-release is the documentary 20 Years Of American Idiot , included on one of the Blu-rays and running for 110 minutes.
In addition, the film Heart Like A Hand Grenade , included on the other disc, follows the band for nine months during the recording of the album.
Each LP in the vinyl box set boasts a unique color. The edition also includes a 36-page book, an imposing Green Day flag, and the iconic red tie from "American Idiot".
The CD version includes a slightly longer book, with 48 pages, as well as nail polish pins, stickers, and a fabric patch. Finally, the anniversary package features new liner notes written by Rob Cavallo and David Fricke of Rolling Stone.
"American Idiot" was a landmark in Green Day's career and in rock history, selling over 23 million copies worldwide and winning a Grammy. The album inspired a highly successful Broadway musical and remains one of the band's most acclaimed works.
