Sepultur fans responded quickly after a man allegedly made Nazi gestures and racist attacks against vocalist Derrick Green during a concert in Fortaleza, Ceará, on July 7th.
The incident came to light through a video published by the page Cinco Miligramas de Misantropia (Five Milligrams of Misanthropy ), which specializes in heavy metal. "While the band was performing, this imbecile decided to make a Nazi salute and utter racist words against the vocalist Derrick, simply because of his skin color," they reported.
The complaint gained traction this Monday, the 17th, after being shared by Van do Halen . The recording shows images of the attack by the headbangers present on the man accused of racism, and an audio account from an unidentified witness who claims to have seen the criminal behavior of the assaulted man.
“That crazy guy was there making Nazi gestures, saying 'Hail Hitler,' saying that a band with a black vocalist isn't a real band, starting fights. [He was] hitting people for no reason and then he got a beating. And then he even went over to where I was, [while] the security guard was throwing him out, and tried to punch my friend. My friend threw a Heineken bottle in his face, gave him a flying kick, and that was it, I just saw the blood gushing out. He left there almost dead, he was beaten up,” the woman recounts.
Sepultura's show in Fortaleza took place at the Metal Weekend 2023 , held at the Armazém Complex between July 7th and 8th, with Green and Andreas Kisser's band headlining the second night.
