Max Cavalera 's departure from Sepultura after the other members opted to replace their manager Gloria Cavalera , the musician's wife, led many fans to blame her for the end of the band's classic lineup, something refuted by Max himself.
In a recent interview with The Dan Chan Show (via Blabbermouth ), Max stated that he doesn't regret leaving the band he formed with his brother, Iggor Cavalera . “It’s extremely frustrating for me that some of the fans don’t understand and it’s very easy to blame people for it. And a lot of people blame my wife, Gloria. They always say, ‘She broke up the band.’ And the truth is that [the band] drifted apart, we started to hate each other, man. It happened with the Beatles and many other bands, like Pantera. That’s just how things are,” he said.
Arguing that the split happened because the members no longer had the same chemistry and "joy in playing together" as before, Max simply realized it was time to "move on" and left the band in 1996 to form Soulfly. "It's a low blow to blame [Gloria]. 'Let's just put the blame on her, she must be the reason this happened' and no – not at all. We were the reason. I'd rather they blame me than her or anyone else. Blame me for Sepultura's breakup, I prefer that," he concluded.
Max and Iggor Cavalera perform 'Roots' in Brazil.
