The confusion generated discontent and discussions on Twitter

Tool fans were surprised this week when Google announced that the band's new studio album had been released.

According to the website Loudwire , Google sent alerts to thousands of fans about the release of an album called IllutionWorld . The alert even came with a tracklist that excited fans, leading them to believe they could hear the new release.

It turns out the album does exist, but it's actually a release by a rapper called TOOL$ , causing the confusion. A few minutes later, the internet was flooded with angry fans.

The discontent is understandable. Since 2006, when they released 10,000 Days, Tool has said they're working on its successor, and fans are still waiting. Recently, photos of the band in the studio were released, but statements from vocalist Maynard James Keenan show that the wait will still be long.

“It seemed like Tool couldn’t get going no matter how hard I tried. I tested every trick in the book,” said Keenan, comparing the work to Guns N’ RosesChinese Democracy , which took almost 15 years to be released.
