Gojira surprises and releases "The Chant" as the last single before the new album.

With Friday approaching, so does the release of Gojira , Fortitude , which arrives on digital platforms on the 30th. In this flurry of new releases, the band launched their newest single, "The Chant," on Sunday night, the 25th.

“The Chant” arrives as the fifth song released from the new album, following the tracks “ Into the Storm ”, “ Amazonia ”, “ Born For One Thing ”, and “ Another World ”. The fifth release diverges somewhat from what has been shown previously, increasing expectations for what the complete album will be like.

Along with the official audio of the single, a teaser for the music video was also released, with a premiere date set for the same day as " Fortitude ," Friday, April 30th. The images suggest the production will follow an Eastern narrative.

Regarding the change in musical direction and the evolution of the band, vocalist and guitarist Joe Duplantier said in an interview with Full Metal Jackie that at the beginning of their career Gojira was very focused on death metal and on creating something that was "violent, dissonant and weird," being influenced by bands like Cannibal Corpse , Morbid Angel and Death , but that things turned towards rock over time.

“There’s a more traditional dimension that comes from Led Zeppelin or Jimi Hendrix or Pink Floyd , [when you’re] growing up and listening to more classic bands, and I think that’s starting to show up and might start to show up naturally. Now that we’re older and have the desire to create something that’s more centered, perhaps, and that takes time to express itself. And it’s a very strange feeling because we feel more mature,” he reflected.
