On the evening of Friday, October 2nd, Gojira made their second appearance at Rock In Rio . The band performed on the Palco Mundo stage at 7:25 PM on Metal Day, bringing extra energy to the crowd that gathered throughout the day.

In a year when we've questioned the repetitiveness of acts at Rock In Rio and the changes needed for metal to remain at the festival, Gojira is like a breath of fresh air. Or a hurricane.

Bringing weight, speed, and technique to the stage, the French band combines subgenres ranging from death to groove metal, also including a bit of thrash, delivering a frenetic and breathtaking setlist. It's impossible to stay still or not be swept away by Gojira's excellence.

Bringing a lot of energy to the stage mixed with the humanitarian awareness characteristic of the band, Gojira proves that metal still has the capacity to enchant audiences beyond the headbanger bubble and literally unite tribes. During the performance of the last track, "Amazonia," vocalist Joe Duplantier called two women from the Brazilian indigenous community onto the stage, the community most affected by rampant deforestation, fires, and illegal mining in the Amazon Rainforest.

At the end of their explosive hour-long performance, Gojira highlights the unifying power of metal as a conscious and rebellious genre, following in the footsteps of other challenging and revolutionary bands like Black Pantera and Living Colour , who also performed on Metal Day.

Despite the difficulty in selling tickets, the headbanger audience did not disappoint, filling the Palco Mundo stage, and Gojira proved that metal still has a lot of life to offer to those willing to listen to it.
