Gojira received the Grammy for “Best Metal Performance” for their performance of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça Ira!)” at the opening ceremony of last year’s Olympic Games. The track is a version of the popular French song “Ça Ira!”, which translates to “It’ll be alright”. It was sung during the French Revolution and was first heard in May 1790.

The performance took place in July 2024, featuring opera singer Marina Viotti , along with a series of decapitated figures representing Queen Marie Antoinette . The show was held outside the Conciergerie, a former prison and residence of the French kings during the revolution, where Marie was held before her decapitation in 1793.

Other nominees for the “Best Metal Performance” category were: Judas Priest , with “Crown Of Horns”, Metallica , with “Screaming Suicide”, Knocked Loose (feat. Poppy ), with “Suffocate” and Spiritbox , with “Cellar Door”.
