Months after the commercial success of their studio album Fortitude , Gojira has now released the animated music video for the track "Sphinx".

The band's seventh studio album arrived five years after the acclaimed Magma (2016) and became the best-selling album in the United States in May. The new video for "Sphinx" features digitally inserted images of the band in an Egyptian desert, singing near a huge sphinx.

Regarding Fortitude , vocalist Joe Duplantier commented: “When we started working on Fortitude , we wanted something different. Magma was kind of dark. We expressed some intense emotions related to my mother's death while we were recording.”

“We talked about it, but on this album we wanted to express something different, something more cheerful and energetic. When I say cheerful, I mean stronger, more extravagant, but in the lyrics we usually talk about humanity and the evil that men do. It's not a party album, but the sound is more rock, more exciting.”
