Known for lyrics that address themes such as nature and humanity, the band Gojira made headlines worldwide in 2024 for their participation in the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics . On that occasion, the group performed "Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)", a version of an important song from the French Revolution.
Now, Joe Duplantier , vocalist and guitarist of the band, has joined PETA ( People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) in a campaign to raise awareness about veganism. This time, the revolution is in support of animal rights.
In the promotional video for the campaign, Duplantier stated that he has been vegan for ten years and that his family also follows the lifestyle. Regarding his motivation for the decision, he said: “I became vegan for the animals. It’s about their lives and what they go through.”
"It's impossible to eat animals or animal products derived from violence and have it be good for you. I have more energy to perform since I became vegan," she added.
The vocalist also said that the way animals are treated on farms, in factories, and in slaughterhouses is "unacceptable," and that even non-vegans would become vegans if they spent a day in a meat processing plant.
Finally, Duplantier mentioned believing that people have a responsibility to challenge the rules and traditions of current society: “This is necessary so that we can gracefully move towards a future where we will be alive. It’s not just an ethical issue, it’s the survival of our species. The vegan revolution is about people opening their eyes to what they are doing and what they are paying for. If you want to disconnect from activities that harm animals, you need to become vegan.”
