Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier said in an interview with Full Metal Jackie ( via Heavy Consequence ) that he would love to see metal receive more attention during the Super Bowl halftime show and has some ideas about who he would like to see featured.
The Frenchman believes that the band's performance at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics could influence the selection of metal bands for major events.
“I think Metallica belongs in the Super Bowl halftime show,” Duplantier said. “It’s a shame they’ve never been invited. It would make sense. I hope we get to see them play ‘Master of Puppets’ and ‘Enter Sandman.’ Imagine that!”
He continued, pointing out that the thrash metal legends are already a constant presence in the sports community: “Metallica is known in the sports world. Many pitchers enter the field to 'Enter Sandman,' or, in American football games, I hear their music a lot; it's very present. They deserve to do the halftime show. It would be a total success.”

“We received the call inviting us to participate in November 2023, and the ceremony was in July 2024. So, we had a few months to prepare, but we had to keep everything secret. We worked with the composer of the ceremony because we weren't allowed to play our own music. At first, I thought it was strange because it would have been amazing if we could have played one of our songs, but the fact that we had to create something related to the theme of the French Revolution was a great challenge, but also a lot of fun.”
