Just over a week after the release of their seventh studio album, Gojira achieved the milestone of being the best-selling album in the United States with Fortitude (via Loudwire ).
The new project debuted at number 12 on the Billboard 200 and totaled 27,372 sales, surpassing the numbers of Magma , which peaked at number 24 and sold 17,000 copies in its debut week.
In the United States, Fortitude also reached the top spot on the Current Rock Albums and Current Hard Music Albums charts, as well as reaching number 2 on the Current Internet Albums and Vinyl LP Albums charts. The album also gave Gojira their best chart position in France, debuting at number two.
Fortitude drew influences from classic rock , such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix , and Pink Floyd , which vocalist and guitarist Joe Duplantier described as a desire by the band to "create something more focused."
