Gojira performs at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics

The band represented metal during the ceremony in their home country

The French band Gojira performed at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, which took place on Friday, July 26th. Check out the video and some photos of the performance below.

The local newspaper Le Parisien (via Revolver ) shared that, in addition to the group, the opening will feature Lady Gaga, Celine Dion , and Aya Nakamura . The band is reportedly part of a collaborative performance, joining opera singer Marina Viotti during her time in the Olympic spotlight.

Stage director Thomas Jolly is orchestrating the opening ceremony, which traditionally celebrates the local heritage and culture of the host country. This is the first time the Olympic opening ceremony has taken place outside of a stadium.

Gojira

The band was formed in Ondres in 1996 and has since gained fans all over the world.

The band's central theme is environmental preservation. They also cooperate with an organization called the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to protect marine animals, especially whales, dolphins, and sharks.

During his visit to Brazil in 2023 with Mastodon, vocalist Joe Duplantier spoke with Wikimetal about the tour and the song "Amazonia," from their most recent album, Fortitude (2021).
