Go Ahead and Die, the new project by Max Cavalera and his son Igor Amadeus Cavalera , released its debut album today, the 11th. The self-titled work also features drummer Zach Coleman to complete the trio.
Max described the new band as a unique father-son collaboration bringing old-school sound with a fresh attitude, abrasive riffs and lyrics from Igor, and brutal drumming from Coleman. "Extreme times demand extreme music!" Max declared in the press release.
In an interview with Blunt , the musician also said that the album "is for lovers of extreme music." "It's made specifically for that kind of audience. We only like extreme underground music and we're going to play it for people that way."
Cavalera, who recently criticized President Jair Bolsonaro and compared him to former US President Donald Trump , stated that Go Ahead And Die aims to sound like 1987 metal, "raw as hell with current political commentary."
“I wouldn’t call it a political album, it’s more of a protest album,” said Cavalera. “Several songs have a protest vibe that’s in the same style as Sepultura ’s Refuse/Resist . Some are a big ‘fuck you’ to everything, like Nailbomb. But we’re not endorsing any political agenda. None of that, man. It’s about human rights at the end of the day. It’s about being treated the way you treat others and all the things we see wrong in the world, like children in cages, pedophiles, COVID, police brutality, and homeless people. All those issues are on the album.”
