Glenn Hughes , English bassist and vocalist, revealed in a conversation with Metal Mayhem ROC Ozzy Osbourne 's band . The musician also recounts how the death of the Prince of Darkness affected him.
Hughes begins by explaining his long-standing friendship with the members of Black Sabbath (via Blabbermouth ): “I’ve known Ozzy, Geezer, Tony and Bill since 1970. They took off that year with 'Paranoid', and I was very close to them at the time. So, I’ve known these guys for 55 years. So, when we lose someone—we, as the general public, lose someone—we lose icons and famous people. But I’ve lost family members.”
The bassist goes on to reminisce about his friendship with Ozzy when they lived near each other.
“He spent a lot of time at my house. I spent a lot of time at his house. He wanted me to play in a band with him in 1979, when he left Sabbath. And at that time I didn’t want to go back to playing bass and singing as a second vocalist, with all due respect, because I love Ozzy very much. I just wanted to be the Glenn Hughes that we all know now — the bassist/vocalist. So, I had to refuse. But, throughout all these years, Ozzy has been very, very close to me.”
Glenn emphasizes that his friend was genuine, loving, and kind.
