Glenn Hughes is a rock 'n' roll hero in his own right, whether for his work with Deep Purple , his solo career, or The Dead Daisies . But which artists inspired the musician?

In an interview with The Wikimetal Happy Hour , Hughes cited iconic duos from the genre's biggest bands as his main inspirations for deciding to become an artist himself: John Lennon and Paul McCartney of The Beatles , and Keith Richards and Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones .

“I was a little boy in school and these four guys were so amazing. When I think back to my childhood, I watched television, the Stones and the Beatles were on, and I was an 11-year-old boy wearing shorts at school, but when I saw this kind of thing, it was my calling,” he said. “They were calling me to join them.”

After the impact of these icons, soul music also became very important, starting with the impact of Motown. “That affected me, I didn’t know where it came from, why I was listening to it… But the music of Black Americans became the pillar of my life,” he continued. “I’m a rock n’ roll person, (…) but on the other side there’s the flavor of R&B, the groove, I love it.”
