Glastonbury: 50th anniversary special edition cancelled due to coronavirus.

The festival was cancelled for the first time in history

The Glastonbury , which was scheduled to take place between July 24 and 28 at Worthy Farm in the United Kingdom, has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We are very sorry to make this announcement, but Glastonbury 2020 is cancelled,” the event organizers wrote in a statement released on social media. “Clearly this was not the plan for the festival’s 50th anniversary edition, but following the measures taken by the government – and in a time of such uncertainty – this is our only option.”

The organization explained that even if the situation in the world, and especially in the United Kingdom, improves in June, it would be impossible to set up the necessary infrastructure for the festival. "We would need to spend the next three months building all the structures and attractions to accommodate more than 200,000 people in a temporary city."

Unfortunately, the edition, which would have featured Paul McCartney as one of the headliners, will only take place next year. The organization advises that tickets already purchased will be valid for the 2021 festival, but understands those who wish to request a refund. Refunds will be available until September.

“The cancellation of this year’s edition certainly comes as terrible news for our team, who worked so hard to make the event happen. We will have many financial implications as a result of the cancellation – and not only for us, but for all partners, suppliers, merchants, and our entire community.”
