Gibson has announced the Tom Petty SJ-200 Wildflower acoustic guitar as a new release from the brand. The guitar is inspired by a custom order placed by Tom Petty in 1996 for use in the recording of the album Wildflowers.
“It’s incredible to see the SJ-200 that our father worked on so many years ago,” said the singer’s daughter, Adria Petty , in a statement to the press. “It took a tremendous amount of work to create a guitar that would live up to Tom’s standards and have all the specifications he could want in an instrument.”
The guitar features an AAA Sitka spruce top and maple binding, as well as Grover Imperial tuners and LR Baggs VTC pickups. The look is customized with a Wildflowers and includes Petty's signature on the pickguard.
Adria explains that Tom played the SJ-200 during the songwriting and recording sessions for Wildflowers : “It’s an honor and a privilege to have Gibson releasing this instrument to celebrate his work of art.”
The Tom Petty Wildflower will hit the market costing $10,000, which is around R$55,000. You can find all the details on the Gibson website and check out the guitar in the video below.
