A giant mechanical bull that became famous at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham has been named after Ozzy Osbourne , following a public vote to name the 10-meter-high sculpture.
According to BBC News , the bull was supposed to be dismantled after the games, but a petition with around 10,000 signatures asked that this not happen. Now it has a permanent place at the city's train station.
"I'm absolutely blown away. Thank you to everyone who voted," Ozzy said in a video sent to the BBC after receiving the news from the British broadcaster.
Originally called Raging Bull, the sculpture garnered 28,000 votes for its name. Competing with Ozzy Osbourne were Bostin, a Midlands phrase meaning excellent; “Brummie,” describing people from Birmingham; and “Boulton,” a reference to the 18th-century industrial pioneer Matthew Boulton. Ozzy attracted over 70% of the votes, according to the BBC.
