Ghost rock or metal? This is a heated and controversial debate among heavy music fans. On one hand, some accuse the band of sounding almost pop, while others argue that there is darker material in the band's catalog.

To try and reach an official verdict, content creator Raphael Casotto directly asked the band's fans at the Ghost show in São Paulo, held last Wednesday, the 20th. While the influencer himself considers the band to be metal, the fans' vote indicated that the band's sound would be better classified as rock in a close result of 5 to 4 votes.

A relevant point regarding official press materials is that Ghost often uses the term "theatrical rock" to classify their own work, but the influence of heavy metal on the group's sound is undeniable in several tracks, as is the band's visual style, often associated with more extreme styles such as death and black metal.

But if there's one certainty, it's that the band's fans are well-informed about Ghost's history, as proven by Wikimetal in partnership with Stephanie Cecília, aka Srta. Pepper, in a poll conducted in the queue for the band's second show at Espaço Unimed (see here ).
