Ghost dedicated their sold-out show last Tuesday night, the 22nd, at Madison Square Garden in New York, to Ozzy Osbourne , who died earlier that same day at the age of 76.
Before beginning to sing the song “The Future Is A Foreign Land”, vocalist Tobias Forge , who plays Papa V Perpetua, said: “Let’s dedicate tonight’s show to the memory of Ozzy Osbourne’s life and laughter.”
Amidst shouts of “Ozzy! Ozzy! Ozzy!” from the audience, Tobias continued:
"As the Prince of Darkness, he has certainly given us much light, so let's take advantage of that tonight and carry it forward in a time of darkness."
Tobias Forge participated in Back To The Beginning , the farewell show of Ozzy and Black Sabbath , which took place on Saturday, July 5th, at Villa Park in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The Ghost vocalist sang the song "Bark At The Moon" (1983), accompanied by Vernon Reid ( Living Colour ), Nuno Bettencourt ( Extreme ), Adam Wakeman (Ozzy Osbourne), Rudy Sarzo ( Quiet Riot ) and Travis Barker ( Blink-182 ).
The untimely death of Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy Osbourne, heavy metal icon and vocalist for Black Sabbath, died on Tuesday, July 22, at the age of 76. The family has not released the cause of death, although Osbourne had faced several health problems in recent years.
The news was confirmed via a statement from the Osbourne family [via The Guardian ]:
"It is with greater sadness than words can express that we have to inform you that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family's privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis."
His death occurred less than three weeks after his retirement from the stage, when Ozzy participated in Black Sabbath 's farewell show . Approximately 40,000 people attended the event, with 5.8 million people watching the show online.
