Iron Maiden 's game , but the metal legends are willing to share the spotlight in their mobile game Legacy of the Beast with collaborations from other artists. The event took place on Wednesday the 13th, with Papa Emeritus IV of Ghost as part of an event called “Mascarade Diabolique”. For a limited time, Papa Emeritus IV becomes a character in the game.
The “Mascarade Diabolique” event is an ode to the history of both bands, drawing on general themes from the cover of Iron Maiden's 2003 Dance of Death
In this new storyline, Eddie and Papa Emeritus IV are invited to a mysterious party in Transylvania (taken from the intro of "A Dance Macabre" and also a reference to Maiden's first instrumental track of the same name on their debut album). They soon discover that things are spiraling out of control, with a sinister force seizing power and attempting to trap them under its control. Together, they must fight against Cardinal Immortus and an evil clone of Papa Emeritus.
When asked about the initial concept pieces for the new character, Ghost leader Tobias Forge stated that he felt “delighted that it’s actually happening.” He added, “I’m happy to see my creation being brought into the world [of Maiden]. That’s a cool thing, very humbling and flattering.”
Iron Maiden's manager, Rod Smallwood , says: “It’s great that the LOTB mobile game continues to innovate. The introduction of other great images and characters from the band is a major evolution from the initial idea we had for Eddie's game universe over five years ago.”
Within the game itself, fans can take on the role of Eddie as he traverses a variety of worlds while appearing in many different forms.
While fans can find the Papa Emeritus IV character at the event, they can also earn the character for free in-game by logging in over the next five days. The Papa character will be unlocked at the end and will remain playable until November 12th.
