Ghost ended the North American leg of their Re-Imperatour last Tuesday, the 12th, in an unusual way. The band banned the use of cell phones and electronic devices under penalty of expulsion from the venue.
The group performed at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles for two consecutive nights, and the use of electronics was prohibited at both performances. "Cell phones, smartwatches , and accessories" were confiscated at the entrance to each show and stored in a Yondr-style case.
In a statement on social media , the Kia Forum warned: “Anyone seen using an electronic device during the performance will be escorted out of the arena by security.” Ghost's intention was to create a “cell phone-free” experience on the last two nights of their tour with Amon Amarth .
The Kia Forum also banned the use of masks, but stated that the use of face paint was permitted. It's a tradition among Ghost's fanbase to use makeup similar to that of the band members, and recently fans had a rough time when they were prohibited from painting their faces for the show at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Missouri.
The ban itself came from the venue, which prevented fans wearing makeup from entering, and later released a statement apologizing for a "communication failure" and clarifying that the directive did not come from Ghost.
