In times when bad news dominates our daily lives, there's nothing like learning about a truly rock 'n' roll that won't let any virus stop it from continuing to do good.
This is the case with Heavy Metal Truants , an English initiative founded by Alexander Milas Iron Maiden 's manager , Rod Smallwood, which aims to make a bicycle trip from London to the Download Festival UK .
But this is not just a simple exercise among metal lovers, because, through donations and an auction of fantastic memorabilia donated by bands and members of the music industry, the NGO raises money for various institutions in the United Kingdom and around the world that help children, such as Nordoff Robbins, Childline, Teenage Cancer Trust , and Save The Children .
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, all festivals, including the Download Festival, were cancelled. However, the event will still be held virtually , which will be enough for the cyclists participating in the initiative to begin the challenge from June 1st to 12th.
To participate in Heavy Metal Truants , dubbed The Eight Of Spades – Virtual Ride , in celebration of the anniversary of Motörhead 's Ace Of Spades simply register on the website and join the initiative's group on the Strava (which includes music lovers from all over the world).
The NGO will provide challenges of varying difficulty levels for cyclists, provided their location allows for safe cycling during quarantine; otherwise, stationary bikes will also be accepted. In addition, walking and running challenges will also be part of this year's edition.
