An excerpt from a new book about George Martin , the Beatles , recounts the creation process of the classic "Hey Jude." The work is the second volume of Sound Pictures , written by Kenneth Womack under the title The Life of Beatles Producer George Martin — The Later Years, 1966–2016 .
“'Hey Jude' started out as one of the longest Beatles songs,” he recounts. “When we were recording the song, I thought it was too long. It was basically a Paul McCartney and I couldn't understand where he was going by repeating the same notes. But of course it became something mesmerizing,” Martin recalled.
George Harrison's suggestions regarding the lead guitar on the track. "Personally, I felt our musical freedom was being limited on the last few albums, mainly by Paul. He had a definite idea of how he wanted to record the songs. He wasn't open to anyone's suggestions." Read the full passage in English here.
