George Fisher , vocalist of Cannibal Corpse , commented on the challenges of being part of a death metal band in the era of cancel culture .
In response to the Knotfest regarding the group's "brutal, disturbing, and repugnant" themes, as he described them, Fisher understands that many people disapprove of this type of content. "If you don't like it, leave. Don't try to cancel us," he said.
But is it possible to cancel Cannibal Corpse ? “You can try, I’m sure you can try to cancel anything,” the vocalist pondered. “Every day you turn around and something is wrong, something isn’t right with something else. Obviously, there are real problems in this world, we have a lot of work to do as people. I think the best thing would be to stop pointing fingers at each other angrily and talk.”
Moderate and without "taking sides" on the issue, Fischer defended dialogue whenever possible. "I disagree with the way people do it. I believe that talking is always the best way, and I think some people feel that," he pointed out.
Regarding the graphic depictions of sexual violence in songs like "Stripped, Raped and Strangled," narrated from the point of view of a rapist and serial killer, the musician explained that "it's just a song, we're not going to do anything like that" and argued that "there are also descriptions of rape in literature" and other art forms, for example.
