In an interview with an American radio station, Kiss bassist and vocalist Gene Simmons defended his famous 2014 comment that rock was dead. Asked if he still feels that way, Gene replied:
“Rock is dead. It’s because of the internet and Napster and all that stuff. Once you download and share files, you’re making it impossible for a band to make a living from it.”
There's still as much talent as there was when we started, but new bands have to live in their mothers' basements because they don't earn enough money to just do that, because people are downloading music. And that's their choice. We allow it, we don't sue anyone for it. So it's everyone's fault. It's the record labels' fault.”
