Simmons responds to the band's speech at RnRHoF

This past weekend, the hip-hop group NWA was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band's induction had previously been criticized by Kiss Gene Simmons, who claimed that NWA isn't rock and roll and doesn't belong in the institution.

In his speech at the ceremony, Ice Cube of NWA countered Simmons' criticism by saying:

“The question is, 'Are we Rock N' Roll?' And I answer, you can bet we are Rock N' Roll. Rock N' Roll is not an instrument, it's not a musical style. It's a spirit that has existed since Blues, Jazz, Bebop, Soul, Rock, R&B, Heavy Metal, Punk Rock, and yes, Hip-Hop. Rock N' Roll is about not conforming to the people who came before you, but creating your own path in music and in life. That's Rock N' Roll and that's who we are.”

On Saturday, after the speech, Gene Simmons took the discussion to Twitter: "With all due respect, let me know when Jimi Hendrix gets inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame and then you'll have a point."
