"All these rules aren't worth much."
In an interview, Gene Simmons defended bands that made major changes to their lineup, such as AC/DC and Van Halen.
“People think ‘AC/DC can’t exist without Bon Scott.’ Actually, they can. And, ‘they can’t exist without Brian Johnson.’ No, they can. Axl Rose did a great job. And Van Halen, who I discovered, can’t exist without David Lee Roth. Actually, they grew more with Sammy Hagar. So all those rules don’t really apply. (…) A band is something dynamic; it breathes, it’s alive, and it’s only as good as the people who make it up.”
The musician also commented on the chances of joining Ace Frehley, Peter Criss, and Bruce Kulick for a Kiss reunion.
“Ah, I think if it’s something that only happens once, anything is possible. I mean, Bruce Kulick and Bob Kulick will be on the Kiss cruise. We have a great lineup and we have a lot of fun. So there are no rules. It’s just that if you’re on a team, you want consistency; you want to trust people, because the whole group depends on it, right? So if the guy is using drugs or drinking too much, the whole team sinks. You depend on each other – one for all and all for one.”
