Gene Simmons explains the impasse with Ace Frehley and Peter Criss: "Terrible decisions"

Former classic members refused to participate in the documentary 'Biography: KISStory'.

Kiss became the subject of the documentary Biography: KISStory , produced by the A&E channel, but the production does not include the participation of former members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss . According to Gene Simmons, the musicians made "terrible decisions."

As Paul Stanley explained to the audience, the absence of his former colleagues was due to a lack of agreement regarding payment and credits on the project. In a recent interview, Gene Simmons assessed the situation as a whole.

“God bless them, both Ace and Peter, at the beginning of the band they were the best thing that happened to us,” the bassist commented to the Talking Wax With Adika Live (via Ultimate Guitar ). “But they made terrible decisions. And they continue to do so – they continue to make really bad choices, not only in terms of their health and what they consume, but in their careers as well.”

In Simmons' view, refusing to participate in the project denotes a lack of professional vision. “We have this documentary that just came out and is among the headliners at the Tribeca Film Festival and, obviously, without even thinking twice, we contacted Ace and Peter, 'Hey, come be a part of this. You helped create the band, there's no doubt about that,'” he continued. “And they refused. Ace wanted certain… 'I want this, I want that, I want editing credits' and that sort of thing. And God bless him, but that wasn't going to happen.”

According to the Kiss co-founder, not even he received those credits. “And I didn’t want to. I just wanted to let go and make it happen. So they hardly appear,” Simmons concluded.
