In an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock , Gene Simmons KISS 's farewell tour , End of the Road , as a preventative measure against the coronavirus, and blamed former President Donald Trump for people's reluctance to get vaccinated against the virus.
Simmons stated that, if it were up to them, everyone should be vaccinated and wearing masks at all times, but he “can’t control” the different rules in different states and countries. The KISS co-founder stated that he is touring with a reduced staff and doesn’t allow anyone into the band’s dressing room unless they are vaccinated and wearing a mask.
Gene also expressed dissatisfaction with the anti-vaccine rhetoric adopted especially by the American population. “[People say] 'I have my rights, don't tell me what to do,' which is curious because you have the right to drive without a seatbelt or run a red light, or even walk naked down the street. These aren't ideas that put your life at risk. We're talking about a fucking pandemic and people are fighting against it,” Simmons said.
The KISS vocalist then went on to say that the biggest culprit for the situation was former US President Donald Trump, and that he himself had been vaccinated. "I blame our last president. I knew the guy before he went into politics and he got vaccinated, as did most of his party," Simmons stated.
Gene concluded by stating that, however "indelicate" it might be to say, he "doesn't care if some idiot gets COVID and dies." He justified this by saying: "I'm worried that this person will take others with them; people who didn't have a chance. It doesn't necessarily have to be death. Being in the hospital is horrible. There are so many cases of people who were deniers and now they're begging for vaccines in hospitals, but it's too late."
