Simmons did not comment
Kiss bassist and frontman Gene Simmons, who initiated legal proceedings last week seeking trademark rights to the maloik , or horned hand gesture, dropped the application last Tuesday, June 20th.
The official document for the process, which can be found here , now includes the message: "the applicant expressly abandons the trademark registration application".
The musician has not yet commented on dropping the lawsuit.
Gene Simmons faced numerous criticisms after filing the lawsuit. Wendy Dio, Ronnie James Dio's wife, even said that Simmons was making a "fool of himself . Coven's vocalist, Esther 'Jinx' Dawson, threatened to sue the musician if the lawsuit proceeded, and published several photos of the band making the symbol years before Gene Simmons.
